Flashforge ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is made from high quality virgin materials ensuring consistent quality and solid vivid colour. ABS is known for its toughness and impact resistance, allowing you to functional wear resistant parts. Flashforge ABS has low oozing characteristics and presents an excellent surface finish.
ABS has a higher glass transition temperature than PLA (88°C vs 55°C), which means the material can withstand higher temperatures before it begins to deform. This makes ABS a great choice for outdoor or high temperature applications.
ABS can easily be sanded and can be painted using acrylic or enable paints and primers.
ABS parts can be joined together using solvents such as Acetone and MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) as well as Epoxy and Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate).
ABS has higher warping characteristics to PLA and PETG filament, thus it is recommended to be used with 3d printers that can print at a minimum temperature of 220°C and a heated bed temperature of between 80°C to 120°C to control warping. ABS can be printed on open frame 3d printers for smaller prints however a fully enclosed 3d printer for larger prints is recommended. Printing with a raft or Brim is recommended without nozzle cooling fans.
Flashforge ABS presents low odour characteristics compared to other brands when printing. It recommended to print in open space or well ventilated areas or with enclosed 3d printers with VOC filtration.
Flashforge ABS is an ideal material to build functional parts. With good mechanical properties, it demonstrates a 30% elongation before it will break and does not suffer from creep (permanent deformation under mechanical stresses) compared to PLA.
Flashforge ABS can be post processed with a acetone vapor smoothing. This procedure dramatically smooths the surface of a print as well as improved strength and inter-layer bonding. Micro capillaries formed from the layer on layer process can be sealed producing airtight parts.
Flashforge ABS can be easily sanded making it the ideal material to produce high quality presentation models.
Paint ABS models with either acrylic or epoxy paints and primers.
Flashforges' state-of-art filament manufacturing facility utilises the latest in filament extrusion technology.
Raw materials are pre dried for a minimum of 5 hours to remove moisture. This avoids any bubbles, popping during printing.
Best in class laser guided tracking and spooling technology ensures filament dimensional accuracy and roundness.
Filaments are the annealed as they are processed. This reduces brittleness of the material and increases the initial softening temperature of the material when 3d printing. This significantly improves material flow, improving surface finish and reduces the change of material blockages.
